Marsh blazing star starter plant Liatris spicata (dormant)

$8.50

Marsh blazing star starter plant Liatris spicata. Also called dense blazing star due to it’s dense spikes of pink/ purple flowers, Found in the wild in sunny marshy wet locations, but will handle medium well drained sunny spots too. Nice for rain gardens. Gets around 3 ft.

These have gone dormant for the year, but still have excellent root growth and can be planted anytime the ground isn’t frozen. Just treat as is though it were still growing and water through any prolonged dry spells. These are grown outside here in Michigan. They may still have some foliage or yellowing foliage if ordered in early fall but as fall progresses and through winter, will just be old stems. Planting dormant plants is a great way to get plants established for next season!

All of our plants are grown in biodegradable fabric pots. The containers are around 4″x4 1/2″ May be planted in the pot or removed .

NOTE! These blazing stars are slow growing and it often takes 3 years before they are big enough to produce flowers, but are well worth the wait. They will not look much bigger than a blade of grass, but will put on more size through the season. They grow from corms and in spring will often have little visible root growth other than these small corms. When planting keep them away from critters too. I recommend removing or ripping the sides of the fabric pot we grow them in for easier root penetration.
