New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) starter plant. New England aster is an easy plant for the butterfly garden. Very adaptable, but generally prefers medium soils in sunny sites. If happy, can get over 5ft and a bush like size. Blooms in late summer through fall until the first freeze. Flowers are purple with yellow centers, but can also be pink with yellow centers. I is usually in bloom during the monarch migration, which can make it an excellent nectar source for migrating monarchs.
As with all of our plants, they are grown in biodegradable fabric pots. The pots can be removed or left on for planting.
We keep all of our plants where they can follow their natural cycles. Here in MI, these plants are dormant and are just stems with roots. However, once received, plant them and let them finish their winter cycle and they will come up in the spring,
